Hatchling Dance on Saturday September 6

Good practice tonight - there were a few rough spots, but on the whole, I think the Hatchling Dance on Saturday looks interesting and fun.

Here's the current lineup:
1. Bob - Jefferson and Liberty
2. Karen - Scout House Reel
3. Martha - Auretti's Dutch Skipper
4. Bill - Carey's Demo Dance
5. David - Beckett Reel
6. Kay - Yellow Stockings
Waltz
Break
1. Billy - Little Kate's Contra
2. Dale - Angular Motion
3. Bob - Mage on a Cree
4. Joe - Comfort Deluxe
5. Chrystal - Fenterlarick
6. Karen - Hey in a Barn
Waltz

Let me know if you think there should be any changes!

Good Morning - I am learning to call and have been working with a home-school family dance group in Helena MT I am hoping to call Auretti's Dutch Skipper in a few weeks. Do you have a set of instructions you could send me. I have several but am looking to make sure that I have it correct, it seems there are several variations and I am also not completely comfortable with all the terminology yet. Most specifically I am not "seeing" the progression of the line. I am assuming it happens with the three change section but that is still a bit fuzzy. I would sincerely appreciate any help you could offer. I have watched it on the Miramax version of Emma as well and it seems there is a section where there is some type of footwork which you can't see, just the bouncing of the characters in place. Can you offer help with that as well? DRIA

Here's Auretti's Dutch Skipper:

Auretti's Dutch Skipper
Longways

A1: 1st couple lead through 2nd couple and cast up to place
1st couple turn two hands
A2: 2nd couple lead up through 1st couple and cast down to place
2nd couple turn two hands
B1:1st corners turn two hands
2nd corners turn two hands
B2 Three changes circular hey (right-and-left), beginning with partner

Men are in the right line (as seen from the caller), women in the left.
The dance is danced in groups of four (take hands from the top of the set in groups of four).
The couple closest to the caller is the first couple, the other one is the second couple.
Your partner is straight across from you. Your neighbor (generally of the same gender) is next to you.
Your corner is the person of the opposite sex diagonally across your group of four.
First man and second woman are first corners; first woman and second man are second corners.

In Auretti's Dutch Skipper the progression happens at the end. Everything in the A1, A2 and B1 parts ends you up where you started. Three changes of rights and lefts starting with your partner puts you into progressed position to dance with the next couple coming towards you.

Some folks do footwork, we do not, at least not yet! We use a sprightly, upright, slightly-on-your-toes walking step.

Hope this helps!
